More digiscrap organizing in iPhoto

So after a few weeks of keyword tagging, all my kits and sets are organized by Styles (elegant, soft, masculine, funky, etc) and Theme (Christmas, baby, etc). I could have used keywords to tag the previews, but my keyword list was already crazy long, so I chose to drag into albums instead.

I wanted to easily find my shortcuts (templates, card templates and QuickPages). Here you can see that I have grouped them together (click for detailed view):

I already have keywords for digi shortcuts (templates, card templates, QuickPages). So I don't have to spend dragging and dropping them into albums. iPhoto has Smart Albums, which can be customized to bring together items by lots of different criteria. I also used Smart Albums to group kits by designer - the Purple icon means an album is a smart album. The pic below shows that I have grouped all the previews from Shabby Princess kits in one folder (click for detailed view):

Here is how I set up the Smart album to automatically pull all the Shabby Princess previews into one album. Go to File --> New Smart Album. This screen pops up (click for detailed view)

Because I put the designer name in the Event title, and I use the preview tag on all kit previews, the smart album pulls them all together. I duplicated this smart album ad (right click on the Smart album name and select duplicate) and then just change the name of the designer. So in about 5 minutes I had organized 10-12 designers that I knew I had a lot of their stuff.

For the templates, quickpages and card templates, I just created Smart Albums that pulled up the appropriate keyword.

And to further organize, I created Folders (File --> New Folder) and dragged the albums and smart albums into the parent folder I wanted them in.

Now I'm ready to digi scrap (if I would just stop wasting time browsing the Internet for layout ideas, freebies and kits)!

Thank you SO much for your posts on organizing in i photo! I'm a fellow mac scrapper & have been trying to find info on this for over a year. Your post help me understand how to organize in i photo & I'm well on my way!!! I'd love to see more as you get have it. Thanks so much because I was getting really overwhelmed with supplies that were impossible to find. I will be organizing forever, but it will be so worth it once it's done.

Thank you so much for the info! It was soooo helpful. I will follow your lead. I was messing around with iphoto09 last night starting to set it up and I just have one more question- How did you organize all the other elements that come in kits. For example: Did you set up smart folders for frames, buttons, ribbons, swirls, doodles etc.. and then use keywords for colors? I really like how you organized everything so I would love your opinion on this. Thanks so much!!
